Bio

Hello!

My name is Ericka Engen. I’m an intern for the Big 1070 and a current student at UW-Madison. I grew up in McFarland, WI. (An exotic island off the coast of Lake Waubesa)

I am also a former walk-on/walk-off for the Badger women’s basketball team.  I averaged 20 a game for the Badgers—seconds that is. I also assisted Mike Heller in 2009 with the badger women’s halftime player-interviews.

Q&A with “The Jessie Vetter”

After winning the world title with the U.S. team in 2008 and 2009, you will soon make your Olympic debut in Vancouver. With that said, there are a couple of crucial questions I need to know before you leave WISCO. . . Here goes nothing!

1. Back in your high school days when you were a Silver Eagle playing goalie for the boy’s varsity team, where did you change before the game?
Most games I would change in the JV locker room while they played the game before the varsity.

2. Between you and your brother Jonnie, who has curlier locks? Do you compete with him when it comes to the curliest head of hair?---I know this might be a touchy subject.
I think jonnie has the curlier locks. The longer my hair gets the less curly it gets, so I think that one goes to jonnie.

3. Do you speak Canadian?
I try but it can be difficult…jk

4.. Are you NOT good at anything?
I am very bad at chess

6. Who was your favorite Wisconsin Women’s basketball walk-on in the 2006 season and why? How do you think she kept her turnovers-per-game so low?
My favorite was definitely Ericka Engen and she was always covered which helped with the turnovers.

7. Can we take a picture together for my facebook profile picture? I would like surround myself with pure excellence.
I would love to be in your profile pic! We will arrange that when we get back.

8. What did you have for breakfast this morning? And what will you have for breakfast on game day in Vancouver?
In the village you have every option you can imagine for breakfast including McDonalds and I went with eggs, hash browns and toast and I am sure that will be the same on game day.

9. What is the most listened to song on your iPod right now?
Anything Nick Lachey or Carrie Underwood

10. What is your favorite place in Madison?
( You can’t say the union—that’s so cliché)
Kohl Center

11. On game day in Vancouver, will you wear Mascara?
… Keep in mind this is national television.
Of course! The hair and makeup will be done!

12. If you were stranded on a deserted island and had to pick a movie, which one would it be: Mighty Ducks, Love and Basketball, Miracle, or Legally Blonde?
Love and basketball

13. What was it like playing on the same team as your older brother Joey in high school?
It was a little strange but we had a lot of fun.

14. Word has it that you are so easy-going and that you never even get worked up or stressed before big games. What if I shaved your head, changed your alarm clock so that you woke late for the Olympic game, flushed your cell phone down the toilet, and put ex-lax in your breakfast on game day. Would you be stressed?
No because I would still be wearing that USA jersey

15. What if I told you Brett Favre hated you?
that might get me stressed, Love him

16. You have become a Wisconsin legend, a sports icon, and role model for Big Ten drop-outs like myself. What is it like to wake up, look in the mirror, and think to yourself. “I’m Jessie Vetter.”
I am still just me

AND FINALLY……….my last question:

18. In all honesty, was the Kohl Center made for ice or wood?
Ice!
