This just in…The major league baseball record for most consecutive shutout losses by a team is four, held by none other than the 1968 Chicago Cubs. Imagine that.
That mark could be in trouble this weekend when the 2012 Milwaukee Brewers roll into San Francisco for a three game set against the Mighty Giants. This will be the lineup of pitchers the Blewers will face: Tim Lincecum, Madison Bumgarner and Matt Cain, three of the top pitchers in the National League, and unfortunately for the punchless Blew-Ha’s, all on the same team they’ll face this weekend.
To add insult to an already embarrassing 11-14 record, the Blewski’s just might also be without the services of one Ryan Braun. Heel! Already crippled with the season ending ACL injury to first baseman Mat Gamel, all this adds up to what could be a record shattering performance if Cain and the Giants do indeed throw three more shutouts into the blustery winds of the Bay area.
Five shutouts in a row? Hey, they’re almost halfway there!
